Xing Annual Run 2017 Announcement

About XMF

Xing Memorial Fund (XMF), a California based non-profit organization, has announced that its second annual fundraising event, “Run for the Stars”, will be held on August 26 and 27. Hundreds of Peking University (PKU) alumni are expected to participate this event from many locations around the world.

XMF was founded in 2015 to pay tribute to Mr. Xing Gu (1968-2015), one of many PKU students who had to overcome extraordinary adversites in China post 1989 era.  Xing means star light in Chinese, symbolizing unwavering hope and the free spirit of generations of PKU students.

The First "Run for the Stars"

The first “Run for the Stars” event was launched on August 28th, 2016, on Xing’s one year anniversary, to celebrate Xing’s legacy, and to bring the PKU 1986 community together. Across the continents, from Beijing to San Francisco, from Canada to South Africa, over 170 PKU alumni, family and friends participated. They walked or ran, in groups or solo, and shared pictures and words of inspiration via a social media forum, WeChat. This event not only energized and strengthened the community but also raised funds to implement the XMF alumni caring initiatives, which provide need based assistance to members of the community. In the past year, XMF provided financial assistance to three PKU 86 alumni in the total amount of $25359.2.

Toward the mission of leadership education, XMF’s merit-based Xing Scholarship program was established to support promising high school seniors in Xing’s home town.  For 2016, four students received college tuition support in the total amount of 14,000 RMB.

For 2017

For 2017, in addition to Xing Scholarship, XMF is launching a new program, XMF Leadership Award. With 2nd generation of PKU alumni in mind, the purpose of this award is to promote servant leadership, character building and civic engagement. The recipients, who will receive an award of $500 to $1000, are expected to demonstrate their initiative to research, develop, and implement community service projects within the community in which they live or they care about. Details of the award is available at XMF website (www.xingmemorialfund.org).

The goal of XMF is to raise $30, 000 in 2017 to support the two main initiatives, through which the community is making an impact by coming together. XMF invites over 2,000 PKU class of 1986, as well as other PKU alumni, from every corner of the world, to show their support by joining Run for the Stars on August 26 and 27, 2017, and promises unforgettable moments of reconnecting, rejoicing and rejuvenation.
