“Run for the Stars” 2019

Xing Memorial Fund to launch 4th Annual Run for the Stars on August 24-25, 2019

July 8th, 2019

Los Angeles,CA.

Xing Memorial Fund (XMF) has announced that its 4th global fundraising event, “Run for the stars”, will be held on August 24 and 25, 2019. Hundreds of Peking University (PKU) alumni are expected to participate from around the world.

The first “Run for the stars” was launched on August 28th, 2016, one year after a former PKU student of Class1986, Xing Gu, passed away,  and XMF was established in his honor by his classmates. Xing has become the symbol of an era of hope and heroism in China and the annual event serves to strengthen the community and to celebrate Xing’s legacy of compassion and leadership.

Across the continents, from Beijing to San Francisco, from Canada to South Africa, hundreds of PKU alumni, family and friends had participated in the past three years. They walked or ran, in groups or solo, and shared pictures and words of love and inspiration via social media. This event energizes and showcases the thriving community, which was shattered 30 years ago in the aftermath of 1989.  It also serves to raise money and awareness for XMF programs, which include alumni caring initiatives and education programs to benefit the younger generations.

One of the education programs is the Summer Education Summit first launched in 2018 in Seattle, WA. The purpose of this summit is to empower youth development through cross generation communication. Parents and children participate in seminars and workshops in a supportive environment and achieve a higher level of mutual understanding and emotional connection. This year, the education summit will be held in Washington DC on August 24th, in collaboration of the Parent Teacher Association of Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology (TJ). TJ is one of the renowned top high schools in the US and many PKU alumni are part of the TJ community. This is a great opportunity for PKU alumni to reunite in different cities and exchange ideas on education, and to make an impact in local Chinese communities.

XMF cordially invites the over 2,000 PKU class of 1986, as well as other PKU alumni who support our mission, from every corner of the world, to spend an unforgettable weekend together on August 24-25, 2019.
