Run for the Stars: Xing Memorial Fund to Launch Annual 5K Run/Walk to Honor Xing Gu

August 16, 2016, Los Angeles, CA.

Xing Memorial Fund, a California-based 501 3(c) non-profit organization named after Mr. Xing Gu, a former student of Peking University, has announced its first annual 5K Walk/Run event, “Run for the stars” to be held on Sunday, August 28th, 2016, one year after Xing passed away at the age of 47.

Inspired by Xing’s extraordinary life cut short, a few of Xing’s former college mates had founded this organization last November, and by May 2016, its tax exempt status had been approved by IRS. The mission of the organization is to promote the values embodied by Xing, leadership, compassion and social responsibility, through educational and charitable activities.

The first program of the organization is a college tuition scholarship for high schoolers at Xing’ hometown, to keep his spirit alive, and to encourage promising high school seniors to apply to Peking University, which is the most prestigious university in China with a tradition of academic excellence and spiritual freedom.

The program is currently funded by donations from Xing’s classmates and the first 4 recipients this year will receive their scholarship awards on August 26th, 2016.

Another mission of XMF is to serve the PKU alumni community. In the days after Xing passed away, the PKU 86 Alumni community felt deeply that he had left a gift for everyone, the gift of deeper connection. Many expressed the hope that the community would come together every year to share a moment of remembrance.

For this purpose, Xing Memorial Fund is launching the annual “Run with the Stars ” event. All Proceeds from this year’s event will go into a newly established PKU Alumni Fund.

XMF is inviting the over 2,000 PKU 86, as well as other PKU alumni who support our mission, to walk on August 28 from all over the world, by themselves, with their families or with fellow PKU alumni.

Online registration is available at www.xingmemorialfund.org.

“This is a significant event for XMF,” said XMF president Cherry Li. “The founding board of XMF has been working hard to lay a strong foundation for this organization, with the vision to bring the community together. Through this event, the PKU 86 community will have a chance to learn about XMF, and we invite more talented alumni to join force with us to carry on Xing’s idealism that is so characteristic of PKU, to serve the community and the society at large”.
